the thatched cottages of Ulster, on board a full-scale emigrant sailing ship leading

30 feet over Northern Ireland’s highest waterfall.

Today we will head out after breakfast for our next stop, Donegal Town. Along
the way we will stop at Lough Derg which is often referred to as Saint Patrick's
Purgatory. This is a special sanctuary of peace and personal challenge. This small
lake and island, renowned in Irish Christian tradition since the time of St. Patrick,
has been receiving pilgrims continuously for well over 1000 years. Once arriving
in Donegal we will check into our hotel and you will have time in the afternoon to
explore Donegal before dinner.
Day 7 – Donegal and Surrounding Area - Monday, July 12th

spectacularly scenic drive along the northern coast of Donegal Bay, where the
road winds along past sheer cliffs, craggy rocks, bog land, panoramic mountain
and sea views, and green pastures. You’ll see the distinctive thatched-roof
cottages typical of the area – with rounded roofs held down by ropes (called
sugans) fastened beneath the eaves to help the thatch resist the strong sea
winds. We will make stops at Killybegs, a traditional fishing village; Sileve League,
the highest sea cliffs in Europe, guaranteed to take your breath away and at the
gorgeous village of Glencolumbkille (Gleann Cholm Cille), the traditional end of
the west coast drive.

Margaret Gaffney Haughney, the Angel of the Delta. It will be a special day filled
with history and music.
Day 10 – Connemara - Thursday, July 15th
Today we will travel from Carrick-on-Shannon to Carna through some of the
most beautiful countryside in Ireland. We will stop in the Village of Cong, which
sits on an island between Lough Mask and Lough Corrib. We will visit Cong
Abbey, which was founded in 1106 as an Augustinian abbey by Turlough O'
Connor and Inchagoill Island which has an extensive Monastic site and religious
ruins. After arriving at our hotel in Carna, you will have time to relax before
dinner at the hotel.
Day 11 – Connemara - Friday, July 16th
Today will be a very special day as we make the pilgrimage over to St. McDara’s
Island for the annual mass and a picnic lunch on the island. In the sixth century
St. Mac Dara built a small church on one of the islands off the coast, namely
'Cruach na Cara'. The Saint's feast day is celebrated annually on July 16th when
people make their way to the island for the celebration of Mass. The feast day also
incorporates a festival of hooker and currach racing in honor of St. Mac Dara, the
Patron Saint of all seafarers. The afternoon will be filled with music and dancing
with a concert that evening.
Day 12 – Connemara – Inishbofin - Saturday, July 17th
Today we will travel to Cleggan to take the ferry over to Inishbofin Island.
Inishbofin (Island of the White Cow) lies seven miles off Galway’s coast ~ A
tranquil island where history and beauty abound. Inishbofin, with a population of
around 200, lies nine miles out from Cleggan. Arriving into the harbor you will
see a star-shaped fort built in the 1650s by Cromwell's troops, who used the
island as an open-air prison for Catholic priests. You will have the day to explore
the island on your own. You can rent a bike or explore on foot, following a path
that runs along the shore. There will be time to stop for a pint in one of the local
pubs or a cup of homemade soup. About a mile in from the pier, a stone ring
marks the remains of a Stone Age roundhouse. Three-quarters of a mile further
along is a ruined, famine-era village. On the west coast of the island you will find
sea-carved caves and blowholes, a colony of gray seals and plenty of beautiful
birds. We will end the afternoon with a few songs from Danny at one of the local
pubs.
Day 13 - Ennis - Sunday, July 18th
Today we will travel to Ennis for our final day and evening in Ireland. With
narrow streets and little shops in every nook, Ennis is, perhaps, the quaintest
town in Ireland. After arriving in Ennis, you will have the entire day to explore
the town. Make sure to walk along Market Street, away from the main area of
town and cut through one of the side streets to the River Fergus. It is a beautiful
walk along the river and you will find a number of out-of-the-way shops where
normally only the Irish shop. We will end our time together in Ireland tonight
with a little music tonight when some of the local musicians join Danny for a
Session.
Day 14 - Fly Home - Monday, July 19th
This morning we will board our plane in Shannon for our return flight to Newark.
To move forward into the future, we must know our past!
