About Travel Celtic and Hy-Brasyl

“On the ocean that hallows the rock where ye dwell, a shadowy land has appeared, As they tell; Men thought it a region of sunshine and rest, And they called it Hy-Brasyl, the Isle of the blest; From year unto year on the ocean’s blue rim, The beautiful spectre showed lovely and dim; The golden clouds curtained the deep where it lay, And it looked like an Eden, away, far away!” ~Gerald Griffin

Travel Celtic and Hy-Brasyl Musical Tours is owned and operated by
Danny O'Flaherty and has been in business for more than 15 years.
The company conducts tours all over the world but the emphasis is
always on Celtic/Irish history, culture and music-- wherever it may
be found. Danny's immensely popular tours to Ireland have,
through the years, brought thousands of Irish Americans back in
time to experience the old way of life in Ireland.
Danny's personally guided cruises and tours are as compelling and
entertaining as his on-stage music performances. His firsthand
knowledge of the traditions of the Celtic people, enable him to share
customs, rituals and local activities unlike you'll find on any other
tour or cruise.
It is no coincidence that years ago Danny named his music company
and his musical tours, Hy-Brasyl, after the mystical island from
Irish legend. The mystery and spirit of this mythological Island is
very much a part of Danny’s life, the spirit of the Celtic people runs
deep through his veins.
The island of Hy-Brasyl, believed to be located off the west coast of
Ireland, is said to have been named after the King of Ireland,
Bressal. Local folklore states that Hy-Brasyl is visible every seven
years. The voyage of St. Brendan, too, was in search of this Land of
Promise.
For that enchanted land did not fade way before the light of
Christianity. Even to many of the spiritual-minded, present-day
dwellers on the Western margin of Ireland, Tir na Nog or I-Breasil,
exists under the sea, just at the horizon’s rim. Some rarely blessed
people still alive, have, on occasion, seen it on a beautiful summer’s
eve rise over the sea, in all its intoxicating, indescribable, beauty.
And more than once have courageous fishermen tried to reclaim it
for mortal man – but never in vain and sometimes, also, with dire
result to the adventurous one.
